Kate Miley is a PhD candidate in the School of Nursing and a Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner at the University of Minnesota Psychiatry clinic, where she specializes in the treatment of adolescents and young adults with recently diagnosed schizophrenia spectrum and mood disorders. She completed an MS in psychiatric nursing at Boston College. Kate’s research interests include improving the functional trajectory of individuals experiencing schizophrenia and bipolar spectrum disorders. The goal of her current research is to use structural and functional neuroimaging to identify brain-based treatment targets for social functioning in the early course of psychotic disorders, and to evaluate how neuroscience-informed cognitive training interventions may protect against deterioration in these brain regions. She hopes to inform the development and optimization of novel treatments effective at promoting social functioning in psychiatric disorders. Kate’s research is supported by a TL1 predoctoral award from the NIH National Center for Advancing Translational Sciences.
